Long Range Alert Systems
The new MURS Alert™ off ers the ability to monitor activity at remote locations. The
MURS Alert transmitter utilizes passive infrared sensor technology to send an alert
signal to the MURS transceivers, letting you know that someone has entered a moni-
tored area. The M538-HT and M538-BS transceivers can also be used for two-way voice
communications.
The MURS Alert™ transmitter is capable of sending 4 diff erent alert messages to the
transceiver. The alert signals will be spoken English, and are easily selected at the trans-
mitter so that separate zones can be monitored at the same time. MURS Alert™ will
give you real-time monitoring of remote locations up to several miles away.
The MURS Alert™ has many diff erent applications; it can be used by security guards,
small businesses, and by hunters monitoring game trails — any scenario that requires
immediate notifi cation when someone or something enters a monitored location.
Authorized by the FCC, MURS (Multi-Use Radio Service) is a license-free service that
allows the user to transmit voice and data. MURS also allows a maximum of 2 watts of
output power. This means greater range than other license-free radio services.
About MURS
MURS (Multi-Use Radio Service) was authorized by the FCC in November of 2000 as a
private, two-way voice or data communications service for personal or business activities.
The fi ve MURS channels are available on a shared basis only. No channels are assigned
on an exclusive basis, therefore it is up to the user to cooperate in the channel selection
to help avoid interference. FCC rules do allow for the use of external antennas with MURS
.
Who Can Use MURS?
No license is needed. A person is authorized by rule to operate an MURS radio provid-
ing he or she is not a representative of a foreign government. Also, MURS can be used
anywhere in the United States except onboard an aircraft in fl ight.
Range
You will notice that we described the range of the MURS system as several miles. While
this might sound a little vague, we are not trying to deceive. The range will be depen-
dent on your local surroundings. We have tested units here in South Dakota over fl at
ground to ranges of about four miles. However, if you are in an urban area with many
tall buildings, your range may be signifi cantly lessened.
